Facebook Messenger is not just a mobile app anymore

Yes, you have heard (or read) it absolutely right that the popular messenger app from Facebook is no more just a mobile app as now the famous messenger app has got a web version. The messenger app is now fully accessible from any web browser you want to use. This definitely promotes the new features of the social network across all type of screens and devices.

What you need to do is just go to Messenger.com, enter your username or email and password correctly and after all this you can easily do things like messaging your friends and make phone or video conference calls, all using the same interface as on the mobile app.

After the launch of this new feature, we can undoubtedly say that Facebook is following the footsteps of WhatsApp, another extremely popular instant messaging service acquired by Facebook which, since January of this year, is also available from your web browser. And with this, Facebook Messenger aims to compete with not only with WhatsApp but also with Skype and Viber.

Another new feature that Facebook is currently experimenting, in the US only for now, allows users to exchange money with their contacts directly through Messenger. All you have to do is, open a chat window, select a contact and then click a dollar sign icon and this will allow you to enter the amount you want to transfer. The recipient must accept the transfer request in order to validate the transaction and to make this happen each party should have previously registered bank card information.

Facebook also claims to have more than 600 million users of its Messenger app.

YouTube soon to launch 360 degree view videos

We all use YouTube, we all watch movies, and all other stuff on YouTube. And now a whole new feature is going to be added to our favourite site as YouTube is now working on adding a feature that is really amazing - A full 360 degree view.

According to a report, this feature will allow users to upload videos that are recorded with the special 360 degree cameras that are soon going to be available in the market. Probably, they will make use of virtual reality headsets.

We have seen many videos that are different in their ways and are with different results and all these videos are surely a challenge for YouTube to deal with as the videos now-a-days are really of different kinds of video to work on the site. These reasons are surely the ones that made YouTube to think upon adding such a feature.
However, till now, it is unclear whether these 360 degree videos are going to be viewable for anyone using a computer, or if they will require a virtual headset to look around the scene in the video.
This feature might also be available for the growing raiment of more high tech goggle, and that set includes the Samsung’s Gear VR.

According to a statement given by a spokesperson from Google to the gadget blog, the 360 degree view feature will come “in the coming weeks.” So, hopes are there that this awesome 360 degree view feature will soon be available for the world to see and enjoy.

Create your own Pirate Bay: The Open Bay

Earlier this week we posted about The Pirate Bay being shut down by the Swedish Police and if you are still wailing the loss of The Pirate Bay, you now have an intriguing new option:  If you have some web hosting, a small amount of tech savvy, and you are located in a country where it is legal, you can now easily host your own Pirate Bay, called The Open Bay.

It is as simple as downloading some files from Github and running a setup wizard. If you wish so, the download also includes the complete database of torrents from The Pirate Bay, KickassTorrents, and IsoHunt. It is not clear if IsoHunt is going to provide a regularly updated database, or if this is a one-off thing. It goes without saying, of course, that hosting links to torrent files might be illegal in many countries.

Earlier in the week, The Pirate Bay team remarked that they would love to be cloned - that the best case scenario would be lots and lots of Pirate Bays that are impossible to shut down. “It would be amazing if, like in the classic movie Spartacus, everyone could stand up and say ‘I am The Pirate Bay’.” And now, thanks to the folks at IsoHunt, we now have The Open Bay.

Steps to Create Your Own Pirate Bay

If we look through the source code, it looks like that this is just a very basic search engine as you cannot create an account, upload new torrents, or comment on torrents. It also seems that the original descriptions from The Pirate Bay uploads are not available, either. The database is just a huge dump of file names and magnet links.

As per my thoughts, making hundreds of Pirate Bay clones is not necessarily a good thing as there are already a lot of torrent sites out there. The number of sites available are actually enough that it would be impossible to shut them all down in one fell swoop. All the things that The Open Pirate Bay offers and actually does not offer, makes it possible that high quality torrents will become harder to find. But if you look at the positive side of this, it is actually a good thing to keep distributed backup of magnet links, which makes it easy to set up a new site quickly if needed. But, everyone standing up and saying “I am The Pirate Bay,” it would not be as simple as it seems.

Google's Top Searches of 2014: A Year in Search

Every year Google releases its list of the most searched items, events, news, tends, people and many more. This year Google has renamed it as “A Year in Search: The Moments That Define 2014,” and this list offers a wide range of stats on the most popular searched terms of 2014.

The most trending searches of the year include the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Ebola, MH370, ALS, Flappy Bird, Conchita Wurst, ISIS, Frozen and Sochi, but it was the late actor/comedian Robin Williams that took the top spot in this list.

Along with the most searched terms of the year 2014 Google also showed how people were searching for some of these terms. For example, with the Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 (MH370) which is the fourth most searched term of the year, Google said “people stayed hopeful for a happy ending despite dim odds,” citing searches for “mh370 found” being more abundant than searches for “mh370 lost.”

Last year we saw tech devices represented in the top 10 list, but this year Google has listed the top electronic gadgets into more specific tech categories.  The Apple iPhone 6 gets on top followed by the Samsung Galaxy S5 and then the Nexus 6 in this list.

The Pirate Bay is down? Yes, but no change in torrent traffic!!

The popular torrent site The Pirate Bay went offline last week and that was first believed to be a simple technical issue but since than it has come into light that the site may have fallen victim to a Swedish police raid.  Fredik Ingblad, the file sharing case prosecutor said that there were a number of police officers and digital forensic experts present at the scene. He also added that the raid took place during the morning time and continued through the afternoon. He concluded that several servers and computers were taken down although he wasn’t sure of the exact numbers. 

The official forum of The Pirate Bay, Suprbay.org, is also offline, as are the related sites such as Torrage, Bayimg.com, Pastebay.net, Zoink, EZTV and the Istole tracker.

But the thing worth mentioning after all these things happening, is that, The Pirate Bay shutdown has not affected the torrent traffic in the past days in any way as the data obtained by TorrentFreak shows the same.

The website obtained the traffic information from one of the most popular torrent tracker, Demonii; and guess what? Demonii is the same tracker that was used on The Pirate Bay. Aside from a very minor dip on the days around The Pirate Bay’s shutdown, the amount of connections per minute to Demonii have stayed relatively stable across the past few days as at the start of this week, the tracker’s traffic was back up to the standard 25 million connections per mark. 

Surely the existence of many other sites of same niche as that of The Pirate Bay are the reason of no change in the traffic rate; as the users surely are not going to wait for their favorite site to come back, rather they will just change the URL in their browser. But, switching to other sites might not prove to be a good thing for some users as according to TorrentFreak, with many users switching to other websites for their torrent downloads, the amount of malware shared may increase. Reason being that The Pirate Bay was relatively well moderated and many of the other sites are not.

Using WhatsApp on desktop may soon be possible

Many of us would have tried a many of times to search over the web the possible ways to use WhatsApp on our desktop, but got no other way than to use a third party software like Bluestacks or some other to run WhatsApp on our desktop.

But now it seems that you would no longer require a third party software to run WhatsApp on your desktop in future as it looks like WhatsApp might be bringing its messaging service to the web.
The rumors aired up shortly after Pavel Durov, the co-founder of rival messaging app Telegram, told TechCrunch that he thought WhatsApp was working on a web version “since they tried to hire our web dev.”

Even though WhatsApp is yet to make any official announcement on the web version of its popular messaging app which currently supports only mobile platforms, a recent discovery by the team at AndroidWorld.nl appears to back up Durov’s suspicions.

In a recent WhatsApp update, there is a mention of “WhatsApp web” hidden inside its code. In addition to this explicit mention of “WhatsApp Web” in the code, it also mentions logging in to a web service as well as references to tracking statuses online.

With over 600 million of users, WhatsApp is the largest messaging service and the only messaging service that still does not offer a web version of its services; but if we look at the rival apps like Line, Viber, Telegram and WeChat, all allow their user to message either on their phone or via the web. But we still can’t say that it is a definite proof of a WhatsApp web version to come, but it certainly looks like the WhatsApp team is at least exploring some sort of web functionality.

Unlimted Cloud Storage to all Office 365 customers

Nowadays, providing the best cloud services is what the big companies like Microsoft, Google, Box, DropBox and many more are aiming at. The main competition is to provide the best yet affordable cloud services.

So, what did Microsoft do to cool down this heated up competition? Here is what Microsoft did….

Microsoft now is providing UNLIMITED CLOUD STORAGE to all the users of all Office 365 versions. This has really put a pause to the competition in the field of cloud storage for now. By doing this Microsoft has simply taken over this filed of cloud storage. The unlimited storage will eventually be available to Home, Personal and University 365 subscribers in maybe a time of a few months.

After repeated steps taken by Microsoft to improve and get its Cloud services on top of others has definitely shown what the company aims at.
Now If we look at the services provided by the other cloud services providers; Google Drive for work  offers unlimited storage at $10 per user/month with other services like cloud email, calendar and a bit more. Dropbox for business offers unlimited storage to a minimum of five users at a cost of $15 per user/month and Box offers unlimited storage at $15 per user/month as a part of its business plan.
So, we can say that all the plans offered by other cloud service providers are nowhere near the one offered by Microsoft. In simple words, Microsoft has just nailed it.
