At the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2015 in Las Vegas, Intel has brought out its 14nm, 5th generation Core processor family.

The 5th Generation Intel Core technology includes 14 new processors for consumers and business, and in this family there are ten new 15W processors with Intel HD Graphics and four new 28W products with Intel iris Graphics.

Intel says that the 5th Generation Core processor is purpose built for the devices of the next generation that offer a lighter, thinner and yet more efficient experience across different form factors, including the devices like the traditional notebooks, Two in Ones, Chromebooks, Ultrabooks, mini PCs and even all in one desktop PCs.

As per the company, the 5th Generation Intel Core (U series) processors make use of Intel’s 14nm process technology to improve upon the previous generation Intel Core processor’s success with 35% more transistors on a 37% smaller die.

The company also claimed that the new process enables the 5th Generation intel Core processors to deliver graphics that are up to 24% better, up to 50% faster video conversion and even up to 1.5 hours of longer battery life.

Added to all of this, Intel also announced that it has started shipping its next generation 14nm processor for tablets to the device manufacturers, with a codename “Cherry Trail”. The system on a chip (SoC) offers 64-bit computing, improved graphics, enhanced performance and longer battery life for tablets. The platform offers LTE-Advanced connectivity on Intel XMMMTM 726x platform and supports Cat-6 speeds and carrier aggregation. According to the sources, Intel’s OEM partners are going to introduce new products based on this platform in the first half of the year 2015.

The new 5th Generation Intel Core processor family includes the Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i5 vPro, Intel Core i7, and Intel Core i7 vPro processors. 14nm process based, new Intel Pentium and Intel Celeron processors will also be available.

The 5th Generation Intel Core processor based systems from different manufacturers will hopefully arrive in the month of January 2015 and the “Cherry Trail” platform based devices are expected to be available in the first half of 2015.
