New Submarines, Missiles, Aircraft and Armored Vehicles for India: $13 Billion cleared

The Indian Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) has reported that India has cleared defense projects in a bulk that are a worth of $13 Billion in a play to hike the country’s national defense readiness.

The biggest project is of the construction of six new submarines and that is to be undertaken by the domestic shipbuilders based on foreign designs. This project is expected to be completed in a span of over a decade and the same project has a cost of about $8 Billion. Following all this, the India’s defense ministry is expected to issue a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a study to seek contractors that might have the capacity and workforce to build all the six submarines or some parts of the six submarines.

According to the reports availed,  the submarines are going to be Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) capable that will enable the subs to stay underwater for longer than a conventional submarine likewise having enhanced stealth features.


The DAC has also cleared the procurance of Israeli Spike MR Missiles and launchers under a plan worth $525 million to field more than 8000 units that are going to replace current Milan in the Army service.

Another crucial acquirement will be the procurement of 12 upgraded DO-228 surveillance aircraft that carry improved sensors for maritime surveillance and this costs about $300 million.

In addition to all this, the Indian Army is also going to get 362 infantry fighting vehicle from the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) besides new Lorries, both brought forth by domestic manufacturers from the private sector.

All these projects are really an asset for the Indian defense forces and definitely are the steps leading to a modernized Indian Force.
