Google's ATLAS Robot |
And now it looks like Google has decided to bring the future
in the movies to us a bit quicker.
How? Let me tell you!!!
ATLAS's first generation model (pictured) is going to get an upgrade. |
Google, the number one internet company and its recently
acquired subsidiary Boston Dynamics, have created the ATLAS Robot named Ian and
they are teaching this robot some fancy Karate moves. No, really, they are
doing this.
This week Google showed off its progress of balance
improvement of ATLAS robot via its Boston Dynamics Unit. In this video, the
robot flaunts a bit of its new Karate skills, doing an awe-inspiring, but a
slightly terrifying interpretation of a scene from the famous 1984 movie, The
Karate Kid.
This robot uses some sensors in its head portion, including
stereo cameras and a laser range finder to see and currently this robot is
strung up to a 480 volt, 15 kilowatt 3-phase power supply. The awesome thing
stands up at a height of 6 feet, 2 inches and weighs 330 pounds.
Reports say that the forth coming version will shed the
power cord, with a high capacity battery pack. The current version, prior
needed a lot of work on its balance and I think the forth coming version would
also need to have some work done on its balance as the current projects use the
power cord for a bit of partial support.
The company insists that it has no interest in using this
amazing robot machine as a weapon of any kind, be it offensive or defensive.
But if Google and its unit Boston Dynamics can achieve their high-flown
aspiration, they may find themselves having a hard time holding out the magic
spell of the Google’s awesome Karate Robot.
